There's no automatic shutoff. The batteries can be dramatically overcharged and may well explode. They were too hot to touch when I unplugged the charger. After that the charger was thrown away.
I would not waste your money. It takes forever (at least a week) to charge batteries and you have to watch so it doesn't overheat. This is absolutely worthless. This is one of those "you get what you pay for" items. I watch it like a hawk and leave it plugged in when I am home and unplug it when I leave for work. I've done that for about 2 weeks trying to charge the batteries and I still haven't gotten the "green lights". It is inexpensive to buy but a piece of garbage that doesn't work and you have to watch. Honestly, I wouldn't even give this a one star rating.
It does not shut off automatically. Found this item to be of adequate quality for the money. One drawback. You will have to remind yourself to remove from the receptacle within 24 hours or the batteries and unit will become hot. Feel I got my monies worth.
Batteries charged ok and work with no problem.I bought it for the batteries (great price for AA's) inspite of some negative review for the charger. I did not encounter any problems with the charger as others did.
batteries only charged once. dont waste your money on these buy a more well known name brand instead.
